The 9th season of the J-League looks to build upon the competitive nature of season 8. We are now down to only one sim team in the league after adding five new squads in the offseason while losing none. That bodes well for us in the future!

After 10 games, we see a lot of usual suspects at the top of the table and two teams that are crashing the party a bit. The Butterflies of Death are off to a flyer to start the season; having notched more than half of their win total from last season (9) already. My beloved Banana Boys are also showing signs of life; holding down 4th place after a very lackluster season 8 and offseason leading into season 9. On the other end of the spectrum, last season's 6th place team (KH Shoguns) is mired at the bottom third of the table.
As was the case last season, however, any outlying early success will likely give way to normalization as the season progresses. And with 19 teams now human coached, I fully expect this season to be the most competitive the J-League has seen so far.

20 games in and the standings have begun to normalize. The Kobe Beef continue to set the pace at the top, going 8-0-2. The Spurs have blazed a trail into 2nd place thanks to an 8-1-1 mark. The Robots have claimed 3rd place with a 7-2-1 record. Meanwhile, the Fishsticks have dropped one position into 4th after going 6-2-2.
